About the speakers
Samuel J. Fell is an Australian journalist and critic. He is a senior contributor to roots music bible Rhythms and a critic for The Sydney Morning Herald. His work has appeared widely, including in Rolling Stone, The Guardian, The Saturday Paper, Australian Financial Review, VICE and Crikey. His previous book is Stars & Hype: First-Time Notes on the American Deep South (2016).
Clinton Walker is an independent Australian writer/producer who across five decades has published a dozen books and worked extensively in journalism, television and in music on stage, screen and record. Sydney’s Sun-Herald called him “our best chronicler of Australian grass-roots culture.” He calls himself a loose cannon. His greatest hits include Buried Country, Inner City Sound, Highway to Hell, Stranded and The Suburban Songbook, all extending to either multi-media including soundtrack CDs and/or global reach. For three years he was the co-presenter of ABC-TV’s late night live music show Studio 22. In 2018, his graphic-history book Deadly Woman Blues was controversially withdrawn from sale. He is currently writing a musical set in Russia in 1913, and next year will see the release of his book in the celebrated 33 1/3 series about Saturday Night Fever.
