‘‘A must-read for anyone interested in a nuts-and-bolts history of the Australian music scene’ Books+Publishing
Samuel J. Fell is an Australian journalist and critic. He is a senior contributor to roots music bible Rhythms and a critic for The Sydney Morning Herald. His work has appeared widely, including in Rolling Stone, The Guardian, The Saturday Paper, Australian Financial Review, VICE and Crikey. His previous book is Stars & Hype: First-Time Notes on the American Deep South (2016).
Having walked away from a promising legal career to chase his musical passions Steve Bell has been documenting the Brisbane and Australian music scenes for more than 25 years, firstly as a journalist for street press publications Time Off and The Music where he still writes to this day – having previously spent a decade as Brisbane print editor – as well as expanding into the freelance world and writing regularly for publications such as Rhythms magazine. He’s also spent countless years on air in the radio realms talking music on both 4ZZZ and ABC Brisbane, and is the co-owner of Brisbane indie record shop Sonic Sherpa and local indie label Coolin’ By Sound, all leading to a rounded appreciation of the wider industry.
