Ian McArthur

Ian McArthur is an educator, writer and journalist. He has been a Tokyo correspondent for the Melbourne-based Herald and Weekly Times and a journalist with The Daily Yomiuri and Kyodo News.He received his doctorate in Japanese Studies at The University of Sydney and has taught Japanese Studies, Japanese language, media, and Asian Studies at universities in Sydney.He is an honorary associate in the Department of Japanese Studies at The University of Sydney and 2009 recipient of the Inoue Yasushi Award for Outstanding Research in Japanese Literature in Australia. His research focuses on European detective fiction as mediums for the transmission to Japan of nineteenth-century European notions of modernity.
