Join Emily Gallagher (National Centre of Biography) in conversation with Catherine Gay to celebrate the launch of Australian Girls: Growing Up in the Nineteenth Century (Monash University Publishing).

Dr Catherine Gay is an award-winning curator and historian with a PhD from the University of Melbourne. She is currently a Research Assistant at the University of Newcastle and a Visiting Scholar at the University of Cambridge. Alongside her academic work, Catherine has delivered curatorial and heritage projects for Museums Victoria, the Australian War Memorial, Cancer Council Victoria and the National Trust of Australia (Victoria).

Dr Emily Gallagher is a historian at the Australian National University and a research editor with the Australian Dictionary of Biography. Her first book Playtime: A History of Australian Childhood was published with La Trobe University Press/Black Inc. in 2025 and won the 2026 W.H. Hancock Prize.
