Ann Curthoys

Ann Curthoys is a historian who lives in Sydney. She has written on many aspects of Australian history, as well as on the theory and practice of historical writing. Her books include Freedom Ride: A Freedomrider Remembers (2002); (with John Docker), Is History Fiction? (2005, rev. edition 2010); (with Ann McGrath) How to Write History that People Want to Read (2009); and (with Jessie Mitchell), Taking Liberty: Indigenous Rights and Settler Self-Government in Colonial Australia, 1830 – 1890 (2018). She is also Professor Emerita at the Australian National University, an honorary professor at the University of Sydney  and a Senior Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia. In 2021 she was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (A.M.).
