Monash University Publishing: Advancing knowledge

Privacy Statement

The personal information that you provide to Monash University Publishing is collected for the primary purpose of subscribing to Monash University Publishing journals or purchasing Monash University Publishing books. If you choose not to provide the information requested, it may not be possible for you to subscribe to our journals, nor to purchase our books in print.
Information about you will be collected on the areas of our site that require a registration and log-in. Currently this comprises two areas: accessing our eCart for purchasing books in print; and registering for or subscribing to a journal. This information is collected for use in the normal course of fulfilling our publishing obligations as detailed below, as well as for statistical analysis. Your information is not used for general marketing purposes, and your details will not be provided to third parties except in the normal course of us fulfilling our obligations to you as set out below, and/or under any obligations required by law.

eCart book purchases

Your mailing information will be provided to the printer to enable your purchased print book to be posted to you. The printer will not use the mailing list for any purpose other than sending out your purchased book and tax receipt.
Your information will not be used to promote further publications to you. If you would like to receive marketing information, including special promotional offers, you can sign up for our online newsletter ‘Monash University Publishing News’. You can unsubscribe from this service at any time.

Journal subscriptions

Some of our journals are produced on behalf of professional associations and a subscription means membership to that association; other journals are produced independently by the Editors. There are different privacy implications for each type.

Journals produced independently by the Editors

Where a journal is produced independently by the Editors, your information may be accessed by the following: the journal’s Editors, the journal’s Subscription Manager, and Monash University Publishing. Your information will not be provided to third parties, except as required by law.
You may receive emailed ‘eToC Alerts’. This is an emailed notification sent out when a new issue of the journal has been published, listing the Table of Contents for that issue. You can subscribe to – or unsubscribe from – these at any time by logging in to the journal site and clicking on ‘My Profile’. At the bottom of the screen, in the section called ‘New issue published email notifications’, place a tick beside the name of the journal for which you would like to receive the emailed alert, or untick the journal to stop receiving the emailed alert.

Journals produced on behalf of a professional association

Where a journal is produced on behalf of a professional association, the Association will be using the site’s database to manage its membership, not merely to manage subscriptions to its journal. Therefore, when you register (and pay) for access to a journal produced by an Association, you are also registering for membership of that Association, and your details will be used to facilitate all aspects of that Association’s general membership operations. This includes any general email or postal mail communications with members, renewal notices, notices of AGMs and events, etc, that the Association would normally send to members.
Where a journal is produced on behalf of a professional association, your information may be accessed by the following: the journal’s Editors, the journal’s Subscription Manager, the Association’s Executive Committee (or equivalent), and Monash University Publishing.
If you have a print-inclusive subscription to the journal, your mailing information will be provided to the printer, to enable your print copy of the journal to be posted to you. The printer will not use the mailing list for any purpose other than sending out material specifically authorised and directed by the Association.
At the bottom of the screen, in the section called ‘New issue published email notifications’, place a tick beside the name of the journal for which you would like to receive the emailed alert, or untick the journal to turn off the emailed alert.
Except as detailed above, your information will not be shared with any third party except as required by law.

Marketing

Monash University Publishing does not use your information to send out marketing material, unless you specifically authorise us to do so. If you would like to receive marketing information, including special promotional offers, you can sign up for our online newsletter ‘Monash University Publishing News’. You can unsubscribe from this service at any time.
If you have subscribed to a journal published by a professional association, that Association may from time to time send you marketing information that the Association feels is relevant for its members, and would send in the general course of operation of the Assocation.
We do not supply your information to other parties for marketing purposes.
